Our design process was focused on unravelling the complex and rich culture of Japan.

The sake brewing process inspired the nature vs technology ratio of the interior design. The rituals of gesture, contemplation, mystery, the passage of time and touch are felt in the level of detail and the quality of the finishes.

The dense fog and high humidity characteristic of the Japanese climate has been translated into ephemerality, blur, reflections, and chiaroscuro nuances. Muted, curved surfaces of ceilings and walls with tonal transitions of colours constitute the background for the precise forms and details of the furniture.

The surfaces are shaped by natural processes and traditional craftsmanship methods. Any decorative detail comes from construction and from the physical properties of the materials used. Asymmetry and irregularity, rough and uneven, pay homage to the aesthetics of Japan.

This can be seen in the fused glass, recalling sheets of ice, the hand chipped stone cladding of the bar, the organic shapes of the tables, the burned wood in shou sugi ban technique, the smoked roughly cut floor planks, the surfaces of hammered metal, and finally, the oscillating art installation, levitating above the bar. All elements are original designs and custom made with great care in cooperation with the finest master craftsmen.

The space was precisely crafted to capture the imagination and allow the discerning guests to discover the place anew, each time they return.
